The Terp Times, Vol. 002 “What Even Is That?” – A Breakdown of Concentrates for the Real Ones

Cannabis has evolved—and so have the ways we extract its essence.
Walk into any dispensary today and you’ll see a hundred jars that look the same but hit completely different. “Live rosin,” “sauce,” “badder,” “THCa,” “disty”—what does it all mean? More importantly, which of it is worth your time?
This guide doesn’t cover everything. It covers what matters.
1. Live Rosin
The crown jewel.
Solventless. Full-spectrum. Washed from fresh-frozen flower using ice and water, then pressed with heat to extract golden, terp-rich hash oil.
📍 How we do it: We freeze our flower at harvest, then refine it in-house in the lab. Nothing added, nothing stripped. Just heads, pressed.
🧠 Best for: Flavor hunters, low-temp dabbers, real heads.
2. Ice Water Hash / Full Melt
Unpressed and unbothered.
This is trichome heads dried and sieved after the wash. True “full melt” will leave nothing behind but flavor.
📍 Why it matters: It's the purest way to smoke the plant without combustion. If it melts clean, you did something right.
🧠 Best for: OGs and purists. Not for the casual.
3. Badder / Batter
Whipped hash rosin.
Same origins as live rosin but stirred into a creamy, cake-frosting texture. Easier to handle, easier to scoop.
📍 Our badder: Made from single-source material, dialed-in whip. Still solventless.
🧠 Best for: Daily dabbers, hash heads who hate the mess.
4. Sauce
Terpy, drippy, and often misunderstood.
Typically made using solvent-based extraction, sauce separates into THCa crystals and terpene-rich liquid. It’s flashy—but not always full-spectrum.
📍 What to watch for: If it doesn’t say live or single-source, it’s likely remixed with added terps. Know your source.
🧠 Best for: Big flavor, big clouds, less about nuance.
5. Diamonds / THCa
Pure potency.
THCa crystalline, often suspended in sauce. These are near-pure cannabinoids with very little flavor on their own. Can be extracted with solvents or isolated from rosin.
📍 Our take: Great for boosting potency, but not what we’re here for. We’re after the whole profile.
🧠 Best for: High-tolerance smokers and moon-rocket blunts.
6. Distillate
Stripped, reassembled, and sold by the liter.
Highly refined THC oil with no real flavor or profile left. Often re-flavored with botanical terpenes. It’s not inherently bad—but it’s not craft.
📍 Reality check: Most carts in the wild are disty. Ours aren’t.
🧠 Best for: Edibles, budget pens, not for connoisseurs.
So What’s the Move?
At Terp Mansion, we stick to what we believe in: solventless, single-source, full-spectrum. Everything we wash, press, and package comes from our own flower, grown under our own roofs. If it’s not clean, we don’t touch it.
We’re not here to sell hype. We’re here to preserve the real, the resin, and the reason we started doing this in the first place.
More coming soon.
